Ethnographic Textiles from Chiloé
This rectangular rug is made from sheep’s wool woven in warp and weft with a twisted yarn known as huiñi. The floral design is applied using the technique of brocade or embroidery, with wool dyed using plants from the surrounding area such as Spanish moss, wild walnut, Chilean wineberry and the pello pello shrub.
It is typical of the rugs traditionally used in houses in Chiloé.
