Ammonites (Anagaudryceras politissimum) belong to the class of the cephalopods - marine animals with an external shell that became extinct around 66 million years ago.
Thanks to their rapid evolution and distribution around the world, these fossils are extremely useful in dating rocks. Many of them date back to the Late Cretaceous period of the Quiriquina Formation.
