This ceramic vessel was found in Lebu in the Araucanía Region of southern Chile and corresponds to the El Vergel Culture, which existed between 900 and 1500 AD in the interior valleys and along the coast between the Bío-Bío and Toltén Rivers.

This culture’s characteristic pottery consisted in large vessels used as funeral urns and jugs in the shape of ducks (ketru metawe in Mapudungun) that were decorated with geometric designs in red or black on white slip or simply painted red.

This particular piece is a round pot with a handle and a red-on-white geometric design (triangles with parallel lines and opposite angles for the vertex).
