The museum, library and personal archive of Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, a leading politician and Governor of Santiago, date back to the nineteenth century and, now a National Monument, are open to the public.

The Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna National Museum occupies the site of what was once the home of Vicuña Mackenna who, as well as serving as Governor of Santiago, was also an important writer and politician.
Of the original nineteenth-century building, all that remains is the two-story section that contained his museum, library and personal archive. In 1992, it was declared a National Monument and is open to the public with a new layout inaugurated in 2018.
The displays reveal the private and family side of the life of Vicuña Mackenna and include some of his personal possessions such as items of furniture, books, portraits and photographs, inkwells and quills and sculptures.
